BIO

My debut Low Expectations was published under a pen name by Quercus. A Nathan Barley-esque love story set in East London, it drew on my experiences in the fashion industry, where I worked in the studios of Alexander McQueen, Jonathan Saunders and Givenchy. Low Expectations featured in Grazia and Glamour’s Best Summer Reads and was translated into German for a two-book deal with Bastei Lubbe. Strings Attached was published by Trapeze. Described as ‘Hilarious, insightful and totally bingeable’ by comedian Riki Lindhome, it was optioned by the production company RED, for whom I wrote the adaption. I have also adapted a Hugo-award winning sci-fi novel.

My passion projects are action/thriller dark comedies; my latest script The Death of Rasputin has placed in the Finals of the Austin Film Festival 2022, amongst others. My first feature Lara and the Dead Boy placed in the top 50 of the Oscars-run Academy Nicholl Fellowships.

If you are curious, my screenwriting samples are available for download under the ‘Screen’ page. I am currently developing new projects in Los Angeles. For assignments, adaptations or option enquiries, please contact my agent Rebecca Thomas at Lewinsohn Literary.

Remember when romantic comedies were all about two straight people falling in love and living happily ever after? Well, real life ain’t always like that so I’m so glad Erin Reinelt wrote the hilarious Strings Attached about open relationships, great sex, sex with food poisoning and living an exciting life exploring beyond the conventional fence. Flipping great holiday novel!

READER REVIEWS

‘I have no idea where to start with all the things that I loved about this novel. This is fresh, feminist at it's most honest and openly discusses aspects of relationships not usually explored in rom-coms. Jean is sick of hiding herself in the shadows so decides on a sexual revolution, marking the beginning of an hilarious but uplifting journey for Jean. I adore the fact that this is not a novel of men-bashing and even the ex boyfriend is written about in almost an endearing manner. Never once did I pity her! The biggest and most pleasant surprise for me in this novel is that it delves a little into the world of women being empowered by sex. Not in a seedy way but in a way that shows they can take control over this aspect of their lives and that it's actually ok. To me this is empowerment. Ms Reinelt has really found a fresh way to write a rom-com which is sexually empowering without moving into the adult book market.’

— HERDING CATS REVIEW

‘I found myself completely captivated by the story. Strings Attached is an honest, original, and hilarious novel. Jean gets herself in awkward and laugh-out-loud situations, like going undercover at a sex party, Eyes-Wide-Shut style, or having intestinal problems while attempting to have a threesome. She has a conflicting relationship with her family and she doesn’t have much luck in love, but her friends are always there for her. They were so entertaining, sarcastic and sincere.’

— BOOK AFTER BOOK REVIEW

‘What a free and liberating book! I mean everything but the kitchen sink was thrown into this narration, from sex parties, open marriages to multiple partner requests, sex retreats and attempted espionage. It certainly was the eye opener. The writing was fun and flirty with an extra order of the inquisitive thrown in for good measure. The unapologetic frankness to modern day love was fresh and new to anything I've ever read before and I took it all in with sheer amazement. From a people pleaser to a liberated woman of the world, Jean stopped at nothing to flex and stretch her muscles in the arena of sexual liberation. A fresh and honest approach to writing that had me glued to its story every step of the way. This is definitely an experience you don't want to miss.’

—STACEY IS READING REVIEW

'To categorise this sassy story as chick lit is to do it a great disservice. Whilst arguably it is a tale of a woman aimed at women it is so much more than that. Never predictable, full of laugh out loud moments, Erin Reinelt delivers a clever, funny yet complex novel about modern day life and love, exciting and empowering that will set your feminist funny bone alight.'

— LADY WIMBLEDON REVIEW

‘Interesting characters which you will instantly like... I loved the laugh out loud, hard to believe, crazy things she gets up to whilst she discovers herself. One of the things I enjoyed was finally seeing a romance book stray from the conventional true love, romance story and delve into more unconventional avenues.’

—THE BOOKISH GIRL REVIEW

‘It was wonderful for a book with a romantic relationship to deal with what could be seen as more progressive things - such as polyamory, pansexuals, multiple partners, open relationships, an orgasmic retreat and even a sex party. All the while that Jean is getting to know herself free from the confines of social norms, she is also working as a political PR, covering up for assorted sex scandals from MPs! This is certainly a book with a difference, Jean's sister is a breath of fresh air to any book that I've ever read. Go into this book with an open mind and you will almost certainly enjoy this refreshing story as much as I did!’

— RACHEL’S READS

‘marvellously funny, full of sarcastic wit, embarrassing moments, sex and life. A present day tale of female liberation, honest, frank and fun.’

— THE BOOKWORMERY REVIEW

‘Jean was straight-laced before she decided to grab the bull by its horns and experience a life totally different to the one she knew. Jean alongside the reader and her great dynamic friendship group, really opens her eyes to a different world and We watch the change in her from page to page as she goes from people pleaser to a total vixen. a whole new twist on typical romance novels! It’s funny, surprising and unlike anything I normally read.’

— LOST IN THE LAND OF BOOKS REVIEW

‘It was wonderful to follow Jean and Gabriel’s blossoming relationship which seemed very real and true to life. Some of the moments between them were actually quite beautiful and poignant. This was a very funny read which often had me laughing out loud, much to my son’s amusement though I couldn’t tell him why I was laughing!’

— READER REVIEW

‘I'm usually a pretty deadpan book reader, but this made me burst out laughing in a hospital waiting room. So yeah, maybe don't read this anywhere you'll get dirty looks for being loud. A very witty and charming read, with plenty of moments that had me squirming with secondhand embarrassment - see review title. I won't spoil it by saying any more, just... oh my God.’

A voice-led, comedy-driven love story set in the ridiculous and fashionable enclave of Nathan Barley’s East London, Georgie humorously eviscerates media stereotypes of young womanhood as she survives apocalyptic hangovers and hideous social gaffes- with a little help from her friends (and a hair of the dog). A fresh, funny, downright filthy 24-year-old fashion student as lost as she is persistent, Georgie staggers through painful setbacks rather like the Black Knight from Monty Python And The Holy Grail. ‘I’ve had worse!’, she cries as she lurches forward, a glib amputee. ‘Have at you!’

‘Is it possible to fully self-actualise as a human being while passing out every night into a doner kebab?’ We’ve all asked ourselves at one point or another. While the answer to this eternal query continues to confound Georgie, she starts on the path of being true to herself… with zany adventures along the way.

To promote ‘Low Expectations’ my sisters Anna and Leila and their MA Film friends helped me to create a book trailer as a promotional tool. Directed by Anna Reinelt and edited by Leila Reinelt, featuring the extremely talented Sophia Carr-Gomm as ‘Georgie’ and styled in the Fyodor Golan Crocodile collection. LoVeNeoN did an amazing job with our sign. A big thank you to the crew and all the wonderful Kickstarter pledgers who made the ‘Low Expectations’ short possible!

Low Expectations is a quarter-life crisis tale with a couture twist. Georgie works in fashion but has no life outside work. But before she can go out in search of a new life, she needs to crack that age-old problem: what exactly does she want?
— GRAZIA, BEST SUMMER READS 2014
This debut from a fashion design graduate-turned-novelist covers a hapless, hedonistic twentysomething learning to be a grown-up, with wine-based disasters along the way- lifted by Aaron’s spiky, acerbic writing. Heroine Georgie’s dating disasters are a highlight.
— GLAMOUR MAGAZINE, BEST READS

“Anyone looking for a funny holiday read, I recommend Low Expectations, which made me properly snort. ...I loved it, really funny. Wish I’d known about it when I wrote about new literary bad girls for the Guardian earlier this year.”

— SARAH HUGHES, GUARDIAN COLUMNIST

“Sound good? Well, it was. I could not put it down. It’s laugh out loud funny, a little bit grubby in the best possible way, and just feels very real. All the chapters have headings like ‘The Deformed Lovechild of Kurosawa’s Subconscious’ and ‘Hamster Mouth More Lethal Than Listerine’, accompanied by Aaron’s own illustrations, which I adored.”

— LOUISE O'NEILL, AUTHOR OF 'ONLY EVER YOURS'

“Aaron’s reading was something else though. Hilarious from start to finish, she chose an extract from my favourite chapter, about picking up an extraordinary amount of cocaine from her ‘friendly neighbourhood dealer man’ in preparation for what might possibly be the messiest New Year’s Eve East London has ever seen. No doubt the audience were surprised to see this beautiful blonde woman explain, with incredible comic timing, just what it is about the terribly obvious, cash -substance exchange that has otherwise intelligent women suddenly having extremely dirty thoughts about their dealer’s gold teeth. She won everyone over.”

— SONNY MARR

“Summer 2014 Books: The Top Ten Chick Lits You Have To Buy”

— CLOSER MAGAZINE

“Low Expectations is an enjoyable, funny debut. Aaron has a way with deadpan asides and cutting descriptions: one character’s nose ‘leers menacingly out of her forehead , casting its malevolent shadow over her other more attractive characteristics, like a tiny Voldemort’”

— THE WORKSHY FOP

“As a debut novel, I am really excited to follow Elizabeth Aaron’s career - you know you have found a great author when you read something that makes you want to be the writers friend, which is exactly how I feel here. Until we meet and become bff’s, this book is the next big thing - roll on novel number two!”

— JENESSA WILLIAMS

“This book reminds us of how much fun failures and fuck ups can be, and the life lessons we learn from those experiences. In short, how they make us who we are. If you are looking for a book that can be described as easy reading but yet is not trashy, a book for sassy girls that isn’t chick lit, which talks about sex without being either sexual or crass, and is funny but god forbid not billed as a comedy Low Expectations may just be it.”

— FRANCESCA BAKER

“Georgie had so much flesh as someone who couldn’t be fictitious. I’m not sure, but I felt I was reading the exact life of Elizabeth Aaron, like a memoir of sorts... having this connection with the main character as you would someone in real life is just super. From her lengthy thoughts on relationships, sex, and men, you get the feeling you are not reading just a book, but reading a real-life story penned in a book.”

— CHICKLIT PAD

“Loosely plotted around the final year of university student Georgie’s fashion degree, we join her as she marauds around east London with her two best friends Rose and Sarah... Low Expectations is full of observational comedy and cameos from some familiar locations and is cutely illustrated by Aaron who has a background in fashion design.”

— PAMFLET X TWIN SUMMER READS

“This debut novel is definitely one to watch: it’s been tipped as “GIRLS meets The Devil Wears Prada in Dalston” and with approval from those in the fashion industry, it’s on the top of everyone’s reading list so pick up a copy today!”

— ECLECTIC SOCIETY, JESSICA COOPER

“Fed up with 18 months of celibacy and stuck in a quarter-life crisis, Georgie is determined that her life will change. Armed with just a sense of humour, her black eyeliner and her best attempts at charm, she’s determined to sort herself out- but how long will it take?”

— INSIDE SOAP, SEVEN RECOMMENDATIONS

“This has been dubbed the Bridget Jones for the Girls generation and perfect if you’re a fan of The Devil Wears Prada ”

— WOMAN'S WAY, THREE TO READ

“...It reminds me of The Devil Wears Prada! Fashion, drama and love, what’s not to love? I think it’s going to be a fabulous read! Can’t wait! ”

— I HEART CHICKLIT

“This Weeks Best Book Releases: I get a feeling that Elizabeth Aaron is definitely one to watch... ”

— BOOKAHOLIC CONFESSIONS

Fabulous! You are a true talent! At times a bit of a trashy true talent, but hey, it’s funny as hell.
